March 25th has been designated a day to celebrate the life and work of JRR Tolkien. The Fresno County Library has pulled some additional resources to gain some knowledge and understanding on the author JRR Tolkien.   Adults: Young Adults: Children: Movies:  Enjoy! Walk to Mordor Challenge: Week Three

Fresno County residents have taken on the challenge in February and March to complete the quest to reach Mordor! We are progressing , and so are you . With progression comes knowledge.  Who do the Hobbits meet at the Prancing Pony in Bree? A. Strider B. Jack of Diamonds C. Gimli, Son of Glon D. Gandalf If you believe you still need to increase your knowledge of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Fresno County Public Library is offering immediate access to download the books off Libby, by Overdrive. Join in on the fun and earn your reading minutes - which will earn you cool badges on LibraryClub! For example, to earn Bill the Pony,  six people have logged and completed reading 1200 minutes. How cool is that! 6 multiplied by 1200 minutes equals 7200 minutes. We have officially completed one week of the Walk to Mordor Challenge. Fresno County Public Library is proud of all of you for embarking on this challenge. Here is a look at the challenge participation:  Eight people have earned Prancing Pony Buttons - we will see them when they visit their branch to pick up their earned button for reaching Prancing Pony! Two people have completed 1200 minutes of reading the Lord of The Rings Trilogy, which earned them a Bill the Pony badge in LibraryClub! One dedicated reader has completed 2400 minutes of reading the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, which has earned them an Elvish Grey Cloak badge in LibraryClub! The Fresno County Public Library has officially shown two movies at our library system. Don't miss out on the upcoming programs  still available for you to partake in. Tolkien's  Lord of the Rings , which encouraged people of all mobility types to move more by allowing them to earn commemorative badges for making it to five different Middle-earth milestones. Whether you hope to reach specific fitness goals (or possibly burn off a few Second Breakfasts or Elevenses), fight some “personal demons” (anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, etc.), or simply share a virtual connection with others who have chosen to go on this journey, we invite you to join us on our quest and earn some fun rewards for your hard work. Tolkien's  Lord of the Rings , which encouraged people of all mobility types to move more by allowing them to earn commemorative badges for making it to 5 different Middle-earth milestones — and this year we're doing it again! April 1st-May 31st, 2023, please join us for "Walk to Mordor" Year 3!  In 2022, 92 Fresno County residents ages 7-74 participated — traveling 17,377   miles collectively — and we're hoping even more people will join us for this year's journey. Thanks to a recent and very generous donation from the Fresno Grizzlies , two of this year's Walk to Mordor participants will be attending a game in style, for free , with a guest of their choice!  Congratulations to those lucky winners, Lily L. of Auberry and Ben M. of Kingsburg!*  Of course, everyone who took part in the challenge and committed to their personal goals is a "winner" in our book!  Stay tuned for another post soon, revealing how far we traveled together this year--and more! *All Fresno County residents who reached at least one milestone in this year's Walk to Mordor program (excepting Fresno County Public Library staff) were included in this random prize drawing.
