Rules

The Fellowship traveled an estimated 1,779 miles* from the Shire to Mordor, over the course of several months. We challenge you to simply move as much as you can from February 1 to March 31 and report that activity using LibraryClub on Beanstack.

You need to register for this program on LibraryClub on Beanstack during this challenge.

Here's how to participate:

  • Keep track of your physical activity every day and convert that into miles.
  • Keep track of the number of books you read from the series.
  • Post on Social Media with the hashtag #FresnoWalksToMordor and #FresnoLibrary
  • Attend a Walk to Mordor Program
  • Answer Trivia

Need help keeping track of your activities/miles traveled? Find a printable log here. Need help converting? Check out the "Activity Conversions" page.

When you've completed enough miles to reach any of these milestones, submit to LibraryClub on Beanstack to claim a commemorative token (corresponding to the Middle Earth location reached):

o Hobbiton to Bree - 34 miles

o Bree to Rivendell - 95 miles (Hobbiton to Rivendell = 129 miles covered)

o Rivendell to Lothlórien - 130 miles (Hobbiton to Lothlórien = 259 miles covered)

o Lothlórien to Rauros Falls - 109 miles (Hobbiton to Rauros Falls = 368 miles covered)

o Rauros Falls to Mount Doom - 132 miles (Hobbiton to Mount Doom = 500 miles covered)

To make this journey easier to accomplish within the short time-frame for this program, we scaled down the total to a goal of 500 miles *Mileage is scaled down based on estimates provided in The Atlas of Middle Earth by Karen Wynn Fonstad.

•Submit your grand total of miles/reading completed, by Sunday, March 31 at 11:59 pm.

Please note: While we encourage everyone to join in on the fun, only individuals residing in Fresno County will be able to claim commemorative buttons or be entered into the final prize drawing. Additionally, we cannot mail buttons to personal addresses; they must be picked up from an Fresno Library branch location.
